Women in Public Space is a socio-demographic artistic study of the social and cultural position of women in our society.

Previous history
A similar project, Daily Game (2001), was realized during a 3-month stay abroad as artist in residence in Canada. At that time, the focus was on exploring the socio-cultural living spaces of women and recording cultural inscriptions in cities of varying sizes - from the 2500 inhabitant community to the multicultural megacity of Toronto.
In contrast, the Alltägliches Spiel (2006-2008) in the hometown of Kapfenberg was the observation of a familiar game in the city that provided the personal socialization. As places of observation, of course only representative of others, communication nodes and training centers were chosen as examples to illustrate the dense social structure of Kapfenberg.

Snapshots of women in the center of the trading town of Judenburg

Chance determined the subjective observation and personal encounters with women in the center of Judenburg during their daily activities in their personal living and working space. Women from Judenburg, women from the surrounding area, tourists and women working in Judenburg were photographed at a moment of their movements, their physical location. The position always chosen by the side for the creation of the snapshot made it possible to depict the dynamics of the moment.

Of all the women who gave their consent to the publication, one picture each was shown in the context of the exhibition. The order of FRAUENBILDER exhibited and projected in the room installation was determined only by the date of taking the picture and the exact time.
The snapshots of the women were taken in public space, and the advertising column in front of the exhibition space served as an adequate presentation site.
As a small thank you, all women received a printout in postcard format.

A female Guldin introduced parallel to the male Gulden - as regional money within the existing Judenburg voucher system - compensates with a higher market value for the generally lower value of the woman. This Guldin is dedicated to all the women of Judenburg, ultimately to all women.
